4. Cochlear Implants
Life‑Changing Support for Hearing
A cochlear implant is a medical device that provides the ability to hear sounds for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss who do not benefit sufficiently from hearing aids. Unlike standard hearing aids, cochlear implants bypass damaged parts of the ear and directly stimulate the auditory nerve, giving many recipients the ability to understand speech and engage more fully with their families, communities, and education.
High Cost of Cochlear Implants:
Cochlear implant surgery and rehabilitation are very expensive in Pakistan due to the cost of the device, specialized surgery, hospital charges, and ongoing therapy:
Total cost per ear: approximately PKR 1,500,000 to PKR 3,500,000 or more
his amount includes the internal implant, external processor, surgical procedure, activation, and follow‑up therapy. Because of these high costs, many families are unable to afford cochlear implants without outside support.
