National Research Institute of Pakistan Sign Language (NRIPSL)
The National Research Institute of Pakistan Sign Language (NRIPSL) is one of the flagship projects of the Pakistan Association of the Deaf (PAD). This initiative is dedicated to the development, research, and standardization of Pakistani Sign Language (PSL) to ensure that Deaf individuals across the country have access to both basic and modern knowledge in a clear, accessible, and culturally relevant form.
NRIPSL focuses on producing high-quality educational resources for Deaf learners by designing and publishing a wide range of PSL-based books. The goal is to create an educational system that fully aligns with the linguistic needs of the Deaf community and improves their overall quality of life.
Core Objectives of NRIPSL:
- Develop a complete and standardized curriculum in Pakistani Sign Language.
- Create educational materials that support Deaf students in their academic growth.
- Ensure equal access to information for Deaf individuals across Pakistan.
- Promote the recognition and use of PSL nationwide.
Achievements:
NRIPSL has successfully compiled, designed, and published 25 Pakistani Sign Language Books , which are widely used by Deaf students, teachers, and institutions across Pakistan. These books cover multiple subjects and levels, making them an essential resource for Deaf education in the country.
Current Work:
The institute is currently developing Early Childhood Education (ECE) materials , including PSL-based books for:
- Playgroup / Nursery
- Kindergarten (KG)
- Preparatory classe
These early learning books will lay a strong foundation for Deaf children by providing them with age-appropriate education in their natural language—sign language.
Through NRIPSL, PAD continues its commitment to advancing Deaf education, promoting linguistic inclusion, and ensuring that every Deaf child in Pakistan has access to high-quality learning resources.
